Getting Around Albania
From buses to rental cars, here's everything you need to know about transportation in Albania.
Albania's transportation network has improved dramatically in recent years. Whether you're island-hopping the Riviera, exploring mountain villages, or traveling between major cities, you have several options. Here's what works best (and what doesn't).
Pro Tips for Getting Around
Mix and Match
Don't pick just one method. Most travelers use buses for main routes (Tirana to Berat), rent a car for 3-4 days to explore the coast, then use transfers for airport runs.
Book Transfers in Advance
Airport taxis can be chaotic and overpriced (€30-50 when it should be €20-30). Pre-booking a transfer saves stress and money, especially for late-night arrivals.
Summer = Book Early
June through August sees demand spike. Rental cars and popular bus routes fill up. Book at least 2 weeks ahead if traveling in peak season.
Have Cash Ready
While many services accept cards, bus fares are almost always cash-only. Keep euros or Albanian lek for tickets, tolls, and small purchases.
